Well, besides rebuilding our homes and lives, we saw beloved neighbors moving. Home values dropping. We had to learn the softness, density and durability of rubber, the lateral force of hydrostatic pressure per square foot under multiple feet of seawater (it’s complicated) and the type of aluminum and stainless steel and made the initial barrier solution even better. We researched with Certified Flood Plain managers on the elements to create a surge scenario and how long they last ( also complicated). We examined everything from storage solutions to vanity covers and even labels for each barrier so years from now when you reassemble the system during hurricane season, you know exactly where it goes.
