Water Gate Systems LLC was born as the result of the tragic devastation wrought by Hurricane Ian to Southwest Florida in 2022. We saw the subsequent loss of life, homes, property and economic distress. Then we had Helene and Milton. We lived the sheer chaos and stress of “what happens next?”. Well, besides rebuilding our homes and lives, we saw beloved neighbors moving. Home values dropping. A group of us asked “how can we protect ourselves in the future?” What can we do to foster community resiliency?
We started researching everything in the marketplace, consulted with engineers, subject matter experts, and have landed on the best solution to endure high wind scenarios and long-term system durability to thwart flood surges . We had to learn the softness, density and durability of rubber, the lateral force of hydrostatic pressure per square foot under multiple feet of seawater (it’s complicated) and the type of aluminum and stainless steel and made the initial barrier solution even better. We researched with Certified Flood Plain managers on the elements to create a surge scenario and how long they last ( also complicated). We examined everything from storage solutions to vanity covers and even labels for each barrier so years from now when you reassemble the system during hurricane season, you know exactly where it goes. Then we looked at what happens after the storm with solar generators so we can provide reliable protection and sustainability during and after a storm.
